Chartered Accountant (CA)

To gain membership of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, students must have:

1.  A degree approved by the Institute
2.  Satisfied the examination requirements of the CA Program
3.  Completed at least 3 years full time or (full-time equivalent) work experience mentored by a Chartered Accountant.

1.  Educational Entrance Requirements

To enrol in CA Foundations, the initial module of the CA program, candidates must have one of the following:

• An accredited degree with passes in subjects covering the core curriculum areas required by the Institute; or
• Completed at least two years (equivalent full time) of a degree accredited by the Institute; or
• An approved non-accounting degree and be undertaking an accredited conversion course; or
• Overseas qualifications that have been assessed and recognised by the Institute and be undertaking their final bridging subjects (four or less); or

There no service requirements for enrolment in the CA Foundations Module.

2.  Academic Requirements for CA Program technical modules

To enrol in the subsequent technical modules of the CA program, students must have completed an accredited degree with passes in the prescribed subjects.

ANU Graduates must have a BComm, BeComm, BFin, BEc degree (or a relevant combined degree) with passes in:

• BUSN1001 - Business Reporting and Analysis
• BUSN1002 - Accounting Processes and Systems
• BUSN1101* - Introduction to Commercial Law
• BUSN2011 - Management Accounting
• BUSN2015 - Company Accounting
• FINM1001 - Money Markets and Finance (or FINM2001 Corporate Finance completed prior to 2004)
• BUSN2101* - Law of Business Entities
• BUSN3002 - Auditing
• BUSN3014* - Principles of Taxation Law

plus ONE of the following courses

• BUSN3001 - Accounting Theory
• BUSN3006 - Public Sector Accounting
• BUSN3008 - Financial Reporting by Corporations

* Students enrolled in a combined degree with Law (LLB) substitute all of the following for the courses marked above

• LAWS1202 - Lawyers, Justice and Ethics
• LAWS1204 - Contracts
• LAWS2203 - Corporations Law
• LAWS2221 - Income Tax
